What Constitutes a Valid Engagement?
For a Prospective Marriage Visa (subclass 300), couples must demonstrate they intend to marry. Generally the following constitutes acceptable evidence of engagement.
- Formal engagement evidence (engagement rings, ceremonies)
- Cultural considerations for different traditions
- Documentation of intention to marry
- Both parties must be legally free to marry
- Wedding plans and preparations
The engagement doesn’t need to follow Western traditions, but there must be clear evidence that both parties have committed to marrying each other and have concrete plans to do so.
